Finally...weekend recap!

Ever have those weeks/days/moments where you feel completely and totally overwhelmed?!?
This week was one of those for me! Work was TOUGH - I had my manager with me for two days, district meetings, tons of administrative work, etc, which equals laundry piled up like woah, Harley hair dust balls on the floor, emotional breakdowns, and not nearly enough time with my two favorite boys. Did I mention Nicholas was on call overnight??? Whew, I'm glad this week is OVER, friends!
AND, Nicholas' second year of residency is official DONE - two down, only one more to go! We're so proud of you, bizzle! :) He finished up in the MICU yesterday, and he was so delirious that if I didn't know better I would have thought he had knocked out some serious drinks on the job. He could barely speak and he almost got hit by a car walking to his car while he was on the phone with me. Awesome. He had some intense patients the night before that kept him super busy all night long.
Anywho, back to the title of this post...our weekend! As I mentioned before, we had a great time with my mom, MaMa, and Phil last weekend. Unfortunately Nicholas had to work and was on call Saturday night (and when he was home he was falling asleep and totally out of it, poor guy), but we had so much fun.  Friday night, before the fam got here, Nicholas, Mills, and I ran out for a quick Mexican dinner. I knew I shouldn't even watch or get pumped up about Clemson playing in the College World Series (I'm more of a football girl anyway), but I figured what the heck, we might as well showcase our team spirit...
(of course they lost Friday and Saturday night to USC, but Mills looked cute in his orange and purple nonetheless. And although I usually pull against the gamecocks {sorry, friends} because of this story I was happy to see them win the title)
Little did we know it would be Mills' first mariachi band experience!! Lucky for us, I had my camera in tow! :) hehe.
Saturday morning we headed out to the Charleston Farmers Market in Marion Square - can you believe we've lived here for over two years and have never been?!?
We strolled around and checked everything out...we had the MOST delicious coffee and tons of yummy samples! Unfortunately Mills wasn't quite old enough for the pony rides...
{insert sad face here}
Maybe next year!!! :)
"Somebody give me a bottle please!"
The milk was oh-so-good going down...but maybe didn't sit so well on a HOT day! :) oh spit up.
used to be gross...now just the norm. :)
Baby pass off...
We walked around a bit more, enjoying the gorgeous weather...
It started getting a little roasty toasty, so we popped into Jim 'N Nick's for some lunch (and a/c)!
My sweet cuddle bear...
Then we headed back to the house. And what did we do all afternoon???
Played with this sweet kiddo!
"oh my Mommy and Gammy and MaMa are sooooo silly!"
On Saturday night Mom and I finally used her bday gift card and painted the picture of her choice at Bottles N Brushes!
This was my second time (I painted Tilman Hall for Mills' nursery), but this one was was very detailed and it took a LONG time, but it was fun! :)
Vino = our "creative juice"
details, details...
Our finished works of art!
Mama and daughter masterpieces! :)
On Sunday Mills got his first taste of veggies (told you this was a busy weekend!) - sweet potatoes!
"I'm trying this...but I'm not really sure about it..."
"Really??? You want me to eat more of this stuff?"
He had a few bites but really wasn't a fan. Nicholas came in and gave it a try as well.
This was after the mouth was tightened shut and tears were shed:
Here's hoping for better luck on the next try! A friend of mine, Kristen, said to give squash a try. I'm trying to make it all myself, so any tips would be greatly appreciated - we're brand new to this department!  Homeboy loves his milk, and does well with rice cereal, but we're hoping to expand his solids now that he's almost SIX MONTHS OLD! :)
And before Gammy, Philly, and MaMa headed home, we had a little bath time fun!
verdict: toes ARE tasty. :)
...AND funny.
Mills also got to model his new Mickey Mouse outfit that his cousin Peyton brought him back straight from WALT DISNEY WORLD!!! :)
He loves it!
He's already looking forward to taking a trip to meet that famous mouse himself! :)
(his momma is, too!)
hehe.
And last but not least...what's a weekend without cupcakes?!?
Have you noticed this tends to be a recurring theme??? T-R-O-U-B-L-E! :)
Looking forward to another fun weekend ahead!

  1. How cool that you painted Tilman! My sister's sister-in-law named her son (middle name) Tilman. Guess they're big Tiger fans too! :) Glad you had a great weekend! Hope you have a fun 4th too!

  2. Squash, sweet potatoes (which you tried), and carrots are all easy to make. The green veggies are usually the most difficult to get mushy enough (we bought earth's best - b1g1 at publix). I've HEARD avocado is a GREAT first food - no cooking or anything... Will hated it, but lots of babies love it. If you steam some cut and skinned pears and add just a dash of cinnamon - that's a yummy fruit. Bananas are also easy - just mash them up. You can do apples the same way as pears. Once he starts eating all of those things, you can eventually introduce yogurt - I used to mix it with some fruits. Good luck! Perhaps you could mix a little of what you make next time with his cereal... see if he'll eat more of it that way?

  3. Holy moly could Mills be any cuter? So glad you had a good weekend.
PS- (even though I am not a Tiger fan) the art work was great!!!! Very impressed!

  4. I second Kathy's comments. Zucchini and squash are super easy veggies to make. We do buy the green beans b/c I can never get those right. Pretty much all the fruits are easy. We tried avocado and Ella hated it - and was up ALL night with a tummy ache. Butternut squash is also a fave with Ella. I would just keep trying - Ella was a little slow at first but now she LOVES to eat :)

  5. Mills is precious! I love this post with all of the pictures! I tried making my own food and found that Earth's Best organic food was less expensive than making it myself.... especially when it was on sale. Parker liked it better than my crappy cooking anyways! If you do choose to make your own food, I recommend a baby cook book. There are certain food like carrots you should NOT make as baby food companies remove excessive nitrates etc than babies at certain ages cannot digest. Hope that helps! Enjoy that munchkin! He's just too cute! I want another now!!!!!!!!!!!!1

  7. So weird, in Chicago there is a wonderful company called Bottles and Brushes with the same theme. I got my Mom a gift certificate for the two of us and we did it together too. You have excellent taste clearly. :)

Mills is adorable and I hope your hubs gets some down time now that his 2nd year is over.

Where on earth is your orange necklace from? I absolutely love it.
