Sweet Baby Charlotte!

Just Saturday night we were having dinner at the rooftop bar...lounging...chatting...hanging out...
Sunday was Liz's due date, but nothing happened...

And TODAY, arriving fashionably late and irresistibly sweet...
Miss Charlotte Elizabeth Schreiner was welcomed into the world!!!
Liz and Andrew did not find out the sex or reveal the name until today, so it was even more exciting for all the rest of us!
Sadly, the star of the show is missing from the pictures. Liz had a little fever during delivery so sweet Charlotte has to stay in the level II nursery for 24 hours, but thankfully she can have visitors back there so she's still been getting lots of love and kisses.  By the way, Liz was quite the rockstar...she had a smooth delivery, looked great, and was moving around like she did not just have a baby!
Liz and Andrew are staying in Charleston for at least another year, as Andrew just started his year as Chief Resident...so we will be seeing a lot of Miss Charlotte even after we move!!!
It's hard to believe that this three years of residency is almost over...and now we have three babies within our close five couple group we started out this journey with...okay, Yoes and Rifes...we'll give you one more year. ;)

Congrats, Liz and Andrew - we're so happy for your family of THREE!

Master Musings...

So, we're the proud owners of TWO homes...exciting, right?!?
{sense the sarcasm...}
:)
We decided to buy a house in our new town, instead of building right away. Until we know what we really want and where exactly we want it to be, this was just a better decision. And, we found a house with really good bones, for a great price, but it needs a liiiiiiiiittle work. Just some updates here and there as it was built in the early 80's, and a major deep cleaning.  We'll leave it at that.
The hardwoods are wide and beautiful - throughout the whole house. And the back porch is fabulous, with a good-sized back yard and view of the pond (or "lake" as they call it around there, hehe).  It's got TONS of potential and I can't wait to share it with you along the way.
Now if we could just sell our house here...but I digress...

I've selected all of the paint colors except for the master bedroom at this point. I'm trying to decide on the bedding first, then build the room around that.  I'm leaning towards the third option, and painting the bedroom a light green {either Benjamin Moore Urban Nature, Soft Fern, Mosaic Glass, or Saybrook Sage...anyone have any experience with any of those colors, btw???}, but I figured I'd throw them all out there.  The floors are dark hardwood and the room only has three small windows, so it's a little dark and I want it to be brightened up!

Option #1, DwellStudio from Layla Grayce
Love the updated pattern, only concern is that these colors will be used on the main floor a good bit, but no deal-breaker!

Option #2, from Serena & Lily
Super bold and fun with the navy and orange...but too bold and fun?? Whatcha think?

Option #3, Sienna Paisley from Pottery Barn
Like the light, airy feeling, and I'd probably use the sandalwood (tan) pickstitch quilt like pictured below:
Close-up detail swatch.
Or does it not pack enough punch?

What do you think, friends??? I would love some input - opinions are greatly appreciated! :)

Trash to Treasure...

A little over a month ago I picked up this "beauty" from the side of the road:
Don't worry, I'm not beginning a new hobby in dumpster diving - or anything like that - but I was looking for something with good bones to turn into a chalkboard, and I saw it in this spot right outside of our neighborhood where people set out furniture and all kinds of other junk on trash day...and I saw the potential!
I already have an old antique frame that we did this for {when I say "we," I actually mean my mom and stepdad, ha!} for Mills' room, so I wanted something wooden, and I wanted to paint it white and distress it...but this was my inspiration:
I think this was from Southern Living, and I love the idea of having it downstairs and listing the football schedule on it in the fall...because we're big football fans around here {now the only problem is which team! Guess we'll have to alternate!} ;)

Okay, now back to my vision...
 Nicholas said this thing was heinous...and he definitely doubted my skills...

But...
After a trip to Lowe's for a can of spray primer, a little sample container of paint, and some chalkboard paint
+
a little distressing around the edges with some sandpaper thingies I already had (i know, i know...there's a better word for those little sanding blocks but i can't think of it!)

And, ta-da!!!
 Isn't she cute?!?
Thanks to a blogosphere of crafty people I learned that you have to prime the chalkboard with chalk before writing on it so it doesn't become permanent.
And she's finished! :)
{and who's that cute little man golfing in the corner???}
I'm gonna wait until we move to put a sweet little quote or verse on it, and put it up on display, but I'm thinking this one will be just the one to remind me that it's not important where we live, but with whom we live {which I may need to be reminded of a time or two after leaving Charleston}:
Whatcha think??? Didn't someone else's trash become quite a cute little treasure?!?

Hello, June!

It's nice to see you!
So sorry for my delay in posting, but we had family in town for Memorial Day Weekend, and I left my camera in their car...a week with no pictures - boo!!!
I can tell you we've been spending a lot of time here...
{these were on my camera from mem. day wknd}
Alto and Dylan looking for crabs - they caught tons of them!
Aunt Betsy helping Mills build a castle (of sorts).
Madison and Dylan!
{look at those cheeks - still so much like a baby!}  :)
It was a gorgeous weekend!
This kid is a beach lover for sure! We've been there twice this week so far, too, because it's Beach Week for the Internal Medicine Residents. We've been taking advantage of that!

I've got lots more to update you guys on - stay tuned!!!

Where we left off...

...which was about here!
Sweet Millsy, I have not updated on what a big boy you are since you turned one! Instead of taking monthly pictures since your big birthday, I've started doing them every other month, which we'll continue until you turn two!
Can you believe that the last time I updated you were not even walking yet?!? You started full force just a few days after your first birthday, and by 13 months you were a pro! Now, at 16 months, you RUN! :)
As for the pictures, here you were at 14 months...
I swear, time flies in the BLINK of an eye!

And here, at 16 months:
 hey there, handsome!
Let's see, where to continue???
-You were strictly breastfed until 12.5 months, and the transition took about a week (although adding a little sugar at first was very helpful, then backing down), but you became a whole milk man! You drink at least two sippy cups of milk a day now, most of the time, more!
-You have either whole wheat waffles and and a banana or eggs with cheese on top every morning for breakfast now. Your favorite foods are waffles, CHEESE (any kind!), bananas, strawberries, pizza, yogurt, and hot dogs. Basically you will only eat foods you can feed yourself, which can be limiting at times! Mr. Independent, for sure! {with yogurt being the exception, because you LOVE it} Sometimes what you like changes from day to day...or meal to meal! You're being difficult with your meats and veggies some days, and will spit them all out, but the pediatrician says it's just a little phase of you showing your independence. We get it, bud. :)
-You LOVE being outside. As long as you're outside, you're content. You can play with a water hose for hours and you love the beach. You have so much fun on your "4-wheeler" and trike.
-Also with the water theme, you love it! You cry to play in the sink, love the bath, and again, the waves at the beach!
-You are still a great sleeper, for which I am thankful beyond words! At least 12 hours a night. We usually read two books, then sing a song, say our prayers, and lay you down. You go right to sleep - it's just easy!  About a month ago you transitioned from two naps a day {usually 11am-1pm, then 4pm-5pm}, to one nap a day. Now you sleep pretty regularly from 1pm to 4pm (sometimes a little longer)! We are very flexible, though. If we have lunch plans, a house showing, or something else planned - we improvise! And you nap when you can. You're good about that and I appreciate that!
-You are the busiest child I've ever seen {even your Pappy agrees, and he's seen busy}! :)  You just like to be moving! :) You'll sit in your little chair and watch the tv for maybe 30 seconds...and that's it. You're an active boy!
-You love playing with toys - blocks, your lawnmower, push toys, golf clubs, books - and you like to try to figure out the way things work - you have such a little inquisitive mind.
-We try to go to story time at the library each week, and you've really picked up on the songs. You love to do the motions to "ram sam sam" and "Itsy Bitsy Spider."
-You babble nonstop, but your main recognizable words are "mama," "dada," "shoes," "cheese," "juice" (which means both juice and milk), and "uh-oh" (which you've finally mastered the "oh" on...for months you said "uh-uh"). You can meow like a cat, bark like a dog, and you still make the click sound with your mouth to call a dog when you see one.
-You love to put shoes on...whether their yours, mine, or Daddy's...you always bring shoes to me during the day so I'll put them on you. I think it's probably because you want to go outside, ha!
-Your car seat has finally been turned forward, and you are SUCH a better traveler now!
-You are an absolute joy! You have such a fun personality, and although you can be exhausting (in the best kind of way!), you are so much fun to be around...and I'm so glad you're mine! :)  This is such a fun age, and each day with you is a blessing. We love you more than words can describe, sweet 16-month-old boy (almost 17, now)! :)
Love,
Ma-ma and Da-da

Winner winner...Anniversary Dinner!!!

Okay, well the title definitely fits the post! :)

First, we have a winner of the fabulous rug compliments of Mohawk...
{drum roll...}

Out of 96 entries, it was comment #33
 So congratulations to Margaret! She has a super cute blog, and even cuter kiddos, who I'm sure will enjoy their new rug!  {Margaret, please just email me so I can get you the info - thanks!}

Yesterday happened to be a pretty celebrated date for us...
 Because three years ago, on May 24, 2008, I was wearing this...
And these sweet girls were walking down the aisle right before me...
 here...
And I was marrying the best guy in the whole wide world! :)
 With lots of people that I love by my side and celebrating with us!
{with a beautiful Clemson sunset in the background!}
I'm pretty sure a good time was had by all...of all ages!
Have I mentioned my love for The Mighty Kicks...love this band!
Oh what night! It's fun to reminisce...
Loved that day...and really love that guy!

This year, we celebrated our anniversary a night early {because Nicholas had to work late last night} at Husk!
Thankfully it lived up to the hype, and was delicious!
The menu changes nightly, but we had the almaco jack (which is like a firmer mahi) with "big grit" risotto and some roasted cauliflower...out.of.this.world.  Top five meal in Charleston for sure! We really wanted to mix it up and get two different entrees, but we couldn't resist...it sounded too good!
And we made the perfect choice! Our two appetizers were delish, too!
...as was this baby!
{when I only have my 50mm lens, this is what ends up happening...blurs the background...including the wife, ha!}
 Yesterday I stopped by and got some goodies for us at Sugar Bakeshop, too!

 And I cooked dinner for Nicholas - just a simple dish. After the little man was down, we popped some bubbly and foolishly reenacted our wedding day {no, seriously, like kids...we "fast forwarded" through some parts and it was hilarious...if you're a kid...or us. It was like ten minutes long, and I'm more or less documenting this memory for myself so I don't forget it, so don't make fun.}  ;)
 We used our "official" wedding flutes and even pretended the cupcakes were wedding cake...yes, we're huge dorks. It's okay.
Then we pulled up this song on youtube and danced...Sister Hazel's This Kind of Love was our first dance song...is it sad that it took us about a minute to think of what the name of the song was and who sang it?!?
I'm ending the post with these song lyrics, because it's just so perfect:

"This Kind Of Love"

And this kind of love makes me feel ten feet tall
It makes all my problems fall
And this kind of trust helps me to hold the line
I'll be there every time

This kind of love it's what I dreamed about
Yeah it fills me up
Baby it leaves no doubt
This kind of love it's why I'm standing here
It's something that we can share
I can't enough of this kind of love

This kind of hope is what I try to find
And now I can't deny I believe
And this kind of faith is so unshakeable
It's unmistakable
It's bigger than me

[Chorus]

Your love can move a mountain
It makes my world go round
It's always there to guide me
I'm so lucky that I found

This kind of love is what I dreamed about
Yeah it fills me up
Well baby it leaves no doubt
This kind of love it's why I'm standing here
It's something that we can share
I can't get enough of this kind of love
This kind of love
